Requesting Access to TAMU Directory Services Data

This page describes the process for obtaining access to data contained in TAMU Directory Services. It is assumed that you have an application-specific need for information about students, faculty, or staff to be used for official Texas A&M University administrative or academic purposes and that your need is consistent with the Appropriate Use Policy (AUP). The AUP provides guidelines for judicious and secure use of TAMU Directory Services data.

TAMU Directory Services data is available in various formats, such as delimited or non-delimited flat files, via web service, etc. The request process begins with the requester sending an email to idm-support@tamu.edu, briefly outlining their request for data and/or asking any questions they may have about TAMU Directory Services or the request process. The requester also completes the request form (doc|pdf). The form is printed, signed by the requester and mailed to the Associate Director of CIS Infrastructure Systems & Services, MS 3363 or faxed to the Associate Director at 845-2074. CIS technologists then meet with the requester to discuss the specifics of the request in detail and to finalize the content of the request form. The form is then forwarded to Networking & Information Security and to the appropriate data custodians for approval.

Data Custodians (Office of the Registrar for Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) data and Office of Human Resources for Budget / Personnel / Payroll (BPP) data) have the ultimate say in who may be authorized to access their data and for what purpose. Please understand that the data custodian approval may take seven to ten days, or more, to complete. Once approval has been obtained, Infrastructure Systems & Services will provide details on the schedule for the development work entailed in the request and any ongoing maintenance that may be required.
